ENGIE: Energy, Innovation, and Business

Engie, on the outset, is a large multi-national conglomerate providing energy solutions through its electricity, natural gas and energy services. What is not well known is that of Engie’s 155,000 worldwide employees, 10,000 are members of [email protected], the Group’s internal innovation hub.

The Innovation Hub

Since [email protected]’s launch in 2014 employees have submitted over 450 ideas to improve energy efficiency from smart solutions for decentralised production to alternative transportation methods. Opening their doors to entrepreneurs in October 2015 expanded Engie’s innovation hub; over 230 employees responded to requests for expertise in the first few weeks.

Energy and Climate Change

As you would expect, however, there is a commercial agenda.  Climate change forces rethinking of production and consumption modes, energy and digital technologies play a key role to reconcile universal access to safe and competitive energy coupled with the protecting our environment.

The issues are Engie are addressing:
  • Reduction of unnecessary energy consumption
  • The decentralised production and management of renewables
  • In our urban society, improve the way that countries, cities, and the transportation sector use and harness energy
What is [email protected]?
In recognising the need for innovation, it is harnessing the minds and energies (excuse the pun!) of its employees, entrepreneurs, and partner organisations in offering ideas and projects supporting these agendas.  Hosting their Innovation Week annually and running hackathons both internally and externally to take ideas to the next level of development; it is investing in start-ups seeking funding to design the next generation or energy data tools. With 12 partner incubators in 4 countries and 6 new projects graduating from these incubator hubs in March 2016 to join acceleration programmes or become full-fledged companies – Engie is supporting the transformation of the world of energy.
And you can be part of this.
The Engie Graduate programme will expose you to important elements of the business.  But not just how Engie does business today.  In all areas, the drive for innovation is paramount.
