I have recently completed my degree at University of Sheffield and have enjoyed the challenge of attaining a mathematics and statistics degree, which I did not find plain sailing. I learned more than just maths while doing it, about myself, and what I believe may define me.
First, I am a fan of being active and fit and follow a disciplined routine of running, cycling, doing weights and gym work and playing sport in order to keep body and mind healthy. I aim to bring this discipline into the work place as I think that this is a strength of my character and would help me to commit to what I need to achieve to get tasks completed.
Second, I have discovered that I thoroughly enjoy the company of other people, engaging in wide-ranging conversations and I am generally interested I learning about other people, their opinions and how differences can be usefully debated. I intend to focus on the development of my communications skills as I think they are a strength as I progress in my professional life.
I consider teamwork vital. Having organised and completed a charity cycle tour from Athens to Zurich over a span of 6 weeks last summer along with 3 other friends, I was forced to meet and solve problems head on. Whilst in Albania, I showed leadership skills in making difficult decisions concerning a friend suffering with severe heat exhaustion.
Finally, I have learned that I have ambition even if I cannot channel it precisely just yet. My interests are far-ranging but I haven’t yet narrowed them down to a firm career choice. In order to realise my ambitions I am keen to work hard to discover what the world holds and what I can offer it at this early stage in my career.
