I am a strong all-rounder, possessing both creativity in abundance and a high level of attention to detail. My recent 2:1 degree in English from the University of Exeter is testament to my research and writing skills. In the Creative Writing module I learnt to manipulate language and its power to influence human behaviour. Writing sport, music and literary articles for Exeter's Student Newspaper, afforded me experience of writing in various styles. Proofing and copy editing taught me the necessity for accuracy. Working as part of the editorial team required tough decisions on content and provided valuable team working experience. Organising my time and concentration to read the volume of books required for my degree consolidated my personal and time management skills. Having had to balance multiple essays whilst at university, I am experienced at handling multiple projects which will stand me in good stead for multitasking in the workplace. I also hold AS-Level Maths and would be happy in a role combining this with my English skills.
Group and individual presentations also formed a major course component. We worked in groups to produce presentations using innovative technology, Prezi and Padlet, to showcase a blueprint of a proposed commercial idea to imaginary clients. We researched JSTOR and Exeter's archives to devise a web model Great Exhibition to educate schoolchildren.
I am self motivated but also understand the need to meet team targets. My role as Team Leader, Housekeeping at KIA Oval, taught me how to motivate a team, meet tight deadlines and how to be flexible to adapt to changing circumstances as a result of varying team numbers per shift and falling numbers within the shift.
During one Summer Vacation I organised my own trip to Uganda to teach at an all boys school in Jinja. I needed to plan lessons independently as there was no syllabus or precedent. It also required me to be an inspiring communicator drawing on all my explanation skills to overcome the barriers of dialect and culture.
In 2016 I studied for my Trinity CertTESOL qualification and took up a seasonal residential teaching post at Studio Cambridge Language School. Here I used my organisational skills for lesson preparation, testing and marking. I also interviewed Japanese students to assess their language expertise and prepared progress reports.
I am now looking to increase my commercial skills and am particularly interested in working with information, especially analysing, evaluating and writing reports.
