Background

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Surrey currently working towards a BSc degree in Accounting and Finance. My passion for accounting and finance stems from my interest in mathematics which led me to study a numerical based degree at university. I am most interested in financial accounting because I aim to become a Financial Accountant in the future, however I have also enjoyed studying other modules such as management accounting, tax, and economics.

Outside of my academic studies I enjoy partaking in a range of extra-curricular activities that allow me to develop new skills, help others, and enjoy a balanced university lifestyle. In the two years that I have been at Surrey University, I have volunteered as an Academic Mentor for A-Level students at St Peter's RC School, I have volunteered as a Playground Helper at St Nicholas' CE Infant School, I have been a First Year Representative for the African Caribbean Society, I have completed a term as President of the African Caribbean Society, I have been a co-choreographer for the African Caribbean Society, I have been a lead character in the African Caribbean Society's annual cultural show, I have trained with the University of Surrey's basketball team, and whilst doing all of this I have been able to maintain a 2:1 average in my academic studies.

The most rewarding role for me was my time as President of the African Caribbean Society because in this role I was able to learn and strengthen important skills such as time management, initiative, problem solving, teamwork, and leadership. My greatest achievement in this role was being one of the five people nominated by the University of Surrey's Students' Union staff for the award of 'Best Society President' in the annual student awards ceremony. I am also proud of the fact that the proposal I put together allowed my African Caribbean Society to be one of only two in the UK able to secure a sponsorship contract with Deloitte for the 2012/13 term period.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, watching movies, singing, drumming and playing the piano. I also enjoy listening to poetry being performed and going out with my friends as I believe it is important to have a healthy work-life balance.
