SEB has been active in London for over 50 years. During the 1960’s Skandinaviska Banken, one of the forerunners of the current SEB, developed and established several new offices in Sweden and to strengthen its international presence, Scandinavian Bank Ltd was founded in London in 1969. Skandinaviska Banken owned 25% of the new bank and the rest was co-owned by a number of Nordic banks.
In 1982 Enskilda Securities was established as a separately capitalised subsidiary, to represent the bank in the international capital markets.
The London Branch Office was opened in 1988 as a banking complement to the already established subsidiary, and in 1990 the office was moved to Scandinavian House when SEB purchased the remaining shares of Scandinavian Bank. Since then it has effectively merged all the Group’s activities in London into one operating unit. In 2008 SEB bought Key Asset Management in London, with some 30 employees.
Today SEB in the United Kingdom employs around 200 staff, all based at Scandinavian House, just opposite St. Paul’s Cathedral in the City.
SEB’s operations in the United Kingdom are:
Cash Management / Global Transaction Services - GTS
Client Relationship Management - CRM
Equity Capital Markets - ECM
