Software development for new products (Web development and supervisory control and data acquisition systems in the transportation domain)
Software maintenance for existing products
Design, code, test, correct and document moderately complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications, using agreed standards and tools
Conduct reviews of supplied specifications, with others as appropriate.
A mixture of the below skills is preferred;
C++ C#, ASP.NET 3.5, SQL Server 2000/2005/2008.
Knowledge of software life-cycle (Waterfall / Agile)
Knowledge of software life-cycle.
Front-end web forms development
PC skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 Administration (Replication, Snapshots, etc.).
Experience of Web Services and XML.
Experience of Automated Test tools (eg: Test Center, Nunit, Nunit.ASP, Selenium, Junit, Jenkins).
Experience of UML for systems design
Experience of requirements tracing from design through to development and test
Minimum educational requirements
Minimum 2:1 Honours Degree or above in Computer Science or Maths
BPSS level (Basic Clearance)

The Thales Transportation Systems Domain deals with Transportation solutions for clients such as Network Rail, London Underground (railway), Transport for Greater Manchester (tram), Highways Authority (roads). The business in DTS is currently centred around Services and Major Programs. We are dealing with the full life cycle of activities; from major complex upgrade projects, such as increasing the number of trains per hour on the Jubilee and Northern line or the 20 year renewal of the London Underground telecoms infrastructure, to more repeatable, proven services delivery and maintenance work. Opportunities to move and work within other divisions, including those involved in the defence and security areas are possible as the company is working with common processes and job families to aid this flexibility.
This role will involve working on transportation related systems and will involve either working at our Cheadle Site in Stockport or alternatively at our London Offices. Please note The Department of Transport & Security currently have multiple projects and will confirm the location where our Graduate Software Engineers will be based as soon as possible.
Please note that GDP activities take place during the working week but may require the investment of some personal time for travel and follow up activities.
You will have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non Thales sites throughout the UK when participating in Graduate Development Programme activities.
